Traffic Analysis

Traffic Analysis

Run elevator traffic simulations to determine optimal lift configurations for new or existing buildings. Available to Ultimate plan subscribers.

What is Traffic Analysis?

Traffic Analysis uses a two-phase engineering approach to recommend elevator configurations for your building. Phase 1 screens hundreds of candidate configurations using analytical methods (Barney Up-Peak RTT or General RTT depending on property type). Phase 2 validates the top candidates with a Discrete Event Simulation (DES) that models realistic two-way traffic patterns across a full day cycle.

How to Access Traffic Analysis

There are two ways to access Traffic Analysis. First, open a new chat — the Traffic Analysis button appears among the quick actions on the empty chat screen. Second, use the Traffic Analysis entry in the sidebar, which opens a dedicated reports view where you can browse and download past analyses. Both entry points are visible only to Ultimate plan subscribers with remaining usage.

How to Run an Analysis (5-Step Wizard)

1

Step 1 — Elevator Type: Select Passenger, Service/Bed, or Freight.

2

Step 2 — Building Info: Enter the project name, property type (Office, Residential, Hotel, Hospital, Shopping Mall, or Mixed Use), total number of floors, basement floors, floor-to-floor height, lobby floor level, lobby height, parking floors below and above lobby, parking usage percentage, and whether the elevator serves parking.

3

Step 3 — Occupancy: Specify the average occupants per floor, visitor percentage, and whether a machine room is available.

4

Step 4 — Shaft Details: Optionally toggle on shaft constraints and provide the number of shafts, shaft width (mm), and shaft depth (mm). If left undefined, the system explores a wider range of configurations.

5

Step 5 — Advanced: Fine-tune the analysis with diversity factor, dispatcher type (Conventional or Destination), traffic intensity (Low, Normal, or High), and optionally limit the served top floor.

Understanding the Results

The AI presents multiple optimized scenarios — typically covering performance best, space optimized, cost optimized, balanced, and energy efficient configurations. Each scenario shows the number of elevators, capacity, speed, average and peak wait times, and handling capacity relative to industry benchmarks for your property type.

Reports & Sharing

After an analysis completes, two buttons appear below the AI response: Download Report generates a detailed PDF with the full AI analysis, building parameters, scenario comparison tables, per-scenario details, methodology notes, and a legal disclaimer. Email Report sends the same PDF to your registered email address. All past reports are also available from the Traffic Analysis view in the sidebar, where you can search, browse, and download them individually.

Pro Tips
  • Provide accurate building parameters — the quality of the recommendation depends directly on the inputs.
  • If shaft dimensions are not yet decided, leave them undefined so the analysis explores a wider range of configurations.
  • Use the Advanced step to model different dispatcher strategies or traffic scenarios for comparison.
  • Use the report as a starting point for discussions with elevator consultants or building designers — it is not a substitute for a professional engineering design.
  • You can run multiple analyses in separate chats to compare different building scenarios or design options.

Traffic Analysis is available to Ultimate plan subscribers with a monthly usage limit (20 per month). Check your remaining allowance in Settings under Plan & Usage.
